During this master course David worked with the subject of inbetweenness from his perspective of being of Iranian descent growing up in Sweden. David reflects on the journey of his father, a soldier then refugee from the Iran Iran Iraq war through an open letter that narrates a short film. His exploration of his roots and family takes him to Tehran in November 2025 where he is unexpectedly caught up in Israel’s attack. David is forced to flee the city in order to escape back to Sweden, becoming a refugee in that moment, he attempts to return through the help of the Swedish authorities but finds himself left to negotiate his escape on his own.The work is personal but has ambitions beyond this experience to speak to wider questions of belonging, citizenship, and family.
